Domitian AR Denarius 81 CE (Group 4)

Domitian AR Denarius (3.13gr 18mm) Obv: IMP CAES DOMITIAN AVG PONT; laureate head right Rev: TR P COS VII DES VIII P P; seat, draped, above, a winged thunderbolt placed horizontally. RIC 68 (R2) BMC --, RSC-- This is my third PONT denarius for Domitian. Although worn, it has a very nice portrait, I bought this coin for the obverse legend IMP CAES DOMITIAN AVG PONT. My other 2 PONT denarii use "DOMITIANVS". The DOMITIAN legend is scarcer for PONT denarii than DOMTIANVS I will continue to search for these PONT denarii. The coins of the first year of Domitian's rule are very interesting. Many of the reverse types are carried over from the rule of Titus.
