Titus AR Denarius 79 CE after July 1

Titus AR Denarius 79 CE after July 1

Obv: IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M, Laureate head left. Rev: TR P VIIII IMP XIIII COS VII P P, Capricorn left; globus below. RIC 20 (R2), BMC p. 227 note, RSC 282

Ex: ANE Store on Vcoins (Sveto)

I could not believe it when this one showed up on Vcoins. I have never before seen one for sale. While not all of Titus' left-facing portraits are rare on his denarii, this one is.

It is an Issue 2 denarius. All of the left-facing portraits in Issue 2 in 79 CE are rare to very rare. I also really like the portrait on this coin. The reverse image of the Capricorn is reminiscent of the silver issues of Augustus several decades earlier.

There are a number of rare denarii of Titus that I am chasing but some of them have yet to appear on the market. I hope to add more in the future.
